Is anyone feeling the need to create… something right now?
Two weeks into lockdown and I’m feeling restless. Not for people – I’m still an introvert, let’s not get crazy. I’m restless for whatever feels like it’s about to dribble out of my fingertips.
I gave up writing fiction a long time ago. Burnout pretty much torpedoed any creativity that wasn’t related to my job. And I suspect that’s only because I forced my brain along old tired paths.
But lately I’ve been asking… what if? What if I rewrote my novel but made the heroes Scottish trek from Glasglow to the Highlands to defeat an ancient monster? What if… my alien invasion was thwarted by inventive Scots? What if my poor heroine stopped representing depression, and become the poster child for hope.
I don’t know if anything will come of these thoughts. Maybe the comfort eating and gaming of the past weeks have sparked some dormant neurons. But let’s go with it.
